Adult Community Yarnbomb

From fluffy blankets to our favorite sweater, at one time or another, each of us has found comfort wrapped up in a knit garment. The craft itself dates back to the 5th century and is practiced on every continent on the planet with motifs and designs handed down through the centuries. In the last two decades artists and activists have embraced the craft taking it to the streets literally, decorating everything from bike racks to busses. At times these knit installations are a whimsical salute to handiwork and in other settings they are parts of larger protest movements from anti war pieces to support of the Black Lives Matter movement

This is the first of four workshops at the Anythink Huron Library where we’ll be embarking on a two week community project, weaving our wishes into crochet and knit pieces. In this adult class we’ll learn about the history of this very unique fiber artform and learn how to make a finger knit chain. Knitting and crochet needles will be on hand for folks who have previous experience. During our project we’ll knit fabric wishes into our piece and do a final installation on June 23rd.

No registration needed but more info can be found on the library website here https://events.anythinklibraries.org/event/6698080
