Articulate Residency Project- An Installation Work Room

The focus of this studio space at Half Crown Creative is to create an environment for myself and others to continue developing artistic practices through solo and group projects, workshops- displaying in physical and on-line spaces.

In the Studio Work Room

Where you see a QR code, you are invited to join in on the project, either working on something the coffee shop or participating in a larger on-line project

Within the studio room will be several projects that visitors can take off the wall and immediately contribute to including embroidered art and paint by numbers canvasses.

There are other opportunities for artists to collaborate on larger projects like a collaborative print on demand deck of playing cards and weekly mandala installations.

At the end of the residency there may be a show of work created during the process, an artist’s journal documenting this journey may also be a component of the piece, possibly acting as a guest book as well.

Themes Explored

“Articulate” is giving a voice and words to an abstract- if we look at the word as a pun, which I’m often inclined to do… we are using art to define an idea. At this moment in my professional life, most of my projects are in teaching art enrichment projects rather than having an identifiable medium of style of my own. A major goal of this residency is to create my own body of work which has a cohesive theme within a given medium.

I find though that I thrive in community projects and it feels impossible to create things just for myself- the best way for me to truly involve an audience in my artwork is to have them collaborate with me.

Returning again to the idea of “articulate”, for the last several years, much of my artwork has been text based in some way or another, whether this would be in graffiti inspired artwork or the inclusion of words or phrases in the art itself.
